Quebec Apostille and Certified Translation

For your documents issued in Quebec and used abroad: we coordinate the apostille request with our partner company and prepare the certified translation the destination country requires.

Who issues the apostille for a Quebec document?

The Ministère de la Justice du Québec issues the apostille, in French only, for documents issued in Quebec: civil status records, diplomas, judgments and notarial deeds. Asiatis coordinates the request with a partner company and prepares the certified translation when the destination country requires one; documents from other provinces are not included.

What we do for you

  • Review of your document and of the destination country's requirements, before any order.
  • Certified translation by a certified translator who is an OTTIAQ member, if the destination country requires it.
  • Coordination of the apostille request with the Ministère de la Justice du Québec, through our partner company.
  • Delivery of the complete file: apostilled document and translation.

Government fees apply to each apostilled document, on top of our quote. Processing times are set by the Ministère de la Justice du Québec.

Quebec's rules at a glance

  • Quebec issues its apostille in French only. It certifies the origin of the document and the signature or seal on it, not its content.
  • It covers documents issued in Quebec: documents from a public body (birth certificate, diploma), Quebec court judgments, notarial deeds.
  • A document from a person or business established in Quebec (power of attorney, declaration of single status, travel consent letter for a child) must be covered by an official declaration from a lawyer or notary.
  • A document issued by a federal authority, another province or a territory cannot be apostilled in Quebec.
  • Some documents cannot be apostilled because of their format: driver’s licence, health insurance card, passport.
  • A document written in a language other than French or English must be covered by an official declaration from a lawyer or notary who understands its content or obtained a translation by an OTTIAQ member.
  • If the destination country requires the translation itself to be apostilled, the translation must also be covered by an official declaration from a lawyer or notary.
  • For a country that is not party to the Hague Convention, the destination country may require an additional legalization.

Declaration from a lawyer or notary

Several cases require an official declaration from a lawyer or notary, with their signature authenticated by their professional order. Asiatis does not handle notarization: we tell you whether this step applies to your document, and it is then done with a lawyer or notary.

Is your document from another province?

Our support is limited to documents issued in Quebec. For a federal document or one from another province, the apostille falls to another authority:

Frequently asked questions

Is the Quebec apostille issued in English?

No. Quebec issues its apostille in French only. If the destination country requires a translation, check whether it also requires the translation to be apostilled: it must then be covered by an official declaration from a lawyer or notary.

Which documents cannot be apostilled in Quebec?

Documents issued by a federal authority, another province or a territory, and some documents because of their format: driver’s licence, health insurance card and passport.

Can you handle the apostille of an Ontario or federal document?

No. Our support is limited to documents issued in Quebec. A federal document falls to Global Affairs Canada, an Ontario document to the Government of Ontario.

How much does an apostille cost, and how long does it take?

Our support and the translation are quoted on request. Government fees, per document, and the processing time of the Ministère de la Justice du Québec are added; both are published on quebec.ca.

Is Asiatis a government authority?

No. Asiatis is a translation agency: we prepare the certified translation and coordinate the apostille request with our partner company. The apostille itself is issued by the Ministère de la Justice du Québec.

Rules checked on October 17, 2026 on quebec.ca and on the Global Affairs Canada website.
